The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary and comfortable housing for families of children who are struggling with cancer. RMH provides a home away from home for families while their children are treated in New York hospitals. Housing is at low to no cost, but most importantly, families are given security, comfort, and community during times when they need it the most.
A common factor is a math term used to describe factors that two numbers share. A factor of a number is a whole number that is divisible by that number. For example, 8 and 6 have the common factors 1 and 2, as seen in the diagram.
A common factor can also be something that two people have in common. In our organization, the common factor of our tutors and students is helping others.
Common Factors is a math term, but it also represents something that we all factor into our lives - helping other people in the best way that we can. Radha Nagrani founded Common Factors to support this common factor of giving back to our community as a team of tutors and students.
Common Factors was founded by Radha Nagrani, a high school student from New York City, to combine her love of math with her desire to give back to her community, specifically children in her community. Common Factors aids RMH while also fostering more confidence in math students. Mathematics is an integral part of education that is cumulative, so Common Factors focuses on building a solid foundation for K-8 students. Every student can benefit from math tutoring, not just those who are struggling but also those who seek enrichment. Common Factors supports both students and families.
Math learning is not about memorizing algorithms or each unit, but rather it is about integrating concepts, problem solving, using logic, and making connections. Therefore, math is not just for school but for life. When a student pairs with one of our tutors, math can become joyful rather than just another assignment.
I volunteer and work as a tutor for several organizations both inside and outside of school. I am enrolled in the Accelerated Integrated Math III course at my school and I have experience tutoring 3rd and 5th-9th graders! I primarily tutor math, but also Spanish and writing/reading. I also love solving difficult math problems with my peers!
I am a sophomore in high school and I enjoy dancing (I won the Dance Challenge at my 8 year old cousin's birthday party), experimenting with cooking and baking scuffins (combination of scones and muffins).
My hope for Common Factors is to educate students while simultaneously impacting individual families. I have always loved math and wanted to explore it further. Now, with Common Factors, I can share my love - with students who are eager to learn!
